Mohamed Aflah elected as President of Cricket Board of Maldives

Mohamed Aflah has been elected as President of the Cricket Board of Maldives for the first time after winning a referendum at last night’s voting for the new Executive Committee of the Cricket Board of Maldives. Mohamed Aflah and Afzal Faiz were the two presidential candidates. Mr Mohamed Aflah 10 votes. Mr Afzal Faiz received 4 votes.

Mr Alfah who played for the National Team for many years and has been an Executive Committee Member for the previous 4 years continues his involvement and influence in the game by becoming the second elected President after Mr. Ahmed Hassan Didi who announced his retirement earlier this year completes eight years service.

Madih Ismail, the only candidate for Vice President was also elected after receiving a majority of votes in the referendum. As per the Election Regulations of C.B.M, if there is a sole candidate for any post, the candidate has to receive a majority of votes in a referendum to be elected. Mr Madih Ismail received 9 votes out of 14 votes.

7 candidates competed for the 4 seats allocated for Full Members in the Executive Committee. Ali Mohamed Manik received the highest number of votes, 13 votes in total, followed by Ahmed Faisal, 10 Votes. The other two Members elected were Afzal Jaleel 9 votes and Mohamed Faisal 8 votes.

There were 3 contenders for the 2 Associate Member seats on the Executive Committee. After voting, the seats were won by Yoosuf Azeem 12 votes & Mohamed Waheed 9 votes. Former National Team player Ahmed Kaleem retained the Private Member seat as the sole contender, receiving 12 votes.

There were 3 people registered to vote that did not attend. Associate Members: Billabong International High School, Imaduddin School. Full Member: Police Club.

The Election was organised and conducted by Ali Saleem, Ahmed Abeer Ismail & Mohamed Aneel Abdul Latheef and Observed by Mohamed Latheef & Ahmed Hassan. Also overseen by Hassan Ahmed from Ministry of Youth & Sports.

The new Executive Committee will assume office on 1st August 2016.
