Ahmed Hassan Retires from International Cricket

The concluding match for #TeamMaldives in the #MalaysiaQuadrangularSeries was a brave affair against an in-form Malaysia team.

Adam Nasif Umar scored 50 and setup the highest total of runs by the Maldives men in this tournament.

At the end of the match players from both teams provided a Guard of Honour for the Maldives player Ahmed Hassan as he announced this would be his last match representing his nation.

Ahmed has been involved in the senior men’s squad for over 15 years as a batsman and occasional off-spinner. Since 2015 he has scored 408 runs and taken 18 wickets at an economy of 5.74 in 31 matches.

Speaking to the media after the match Ahmed said that he has sacrificed much of his free time to playing cricket and was happy to spend his last match surrounded by his team mates although the result was not what they wanted.

One of his coaches, Imad Ismail, who has coached him since he first picked up a bat as part of a School Development Programme back in the early 2000’s said that Ahmed was one of the first players that came from a non-cricket playing family that went on to represent Maldives at all the available age levels right up to the Senior men’s team. His dedication to the game whilst studying and working extremely hard towards his career is a fine example to the next generation of players coming through.

The Cricket Board of Maldives wishes him all the best and appreciates the efforts, sacrifices and challenges faced by Ahmed, his wife, family and friends.

Enjoy your international retirement Ahmaddey.
