The annual men’s T20 cricket competition began on Friday 8 September. The 4 participating teams played a round-robin of group matches followed by eliminators and semi-finals.
For the second year running, the competition is named in memory of Mohamed Ma’aadhu Shareef. ‘Maad’ was a former player, coach and umpire and is missed by all each day. We thank his parents and family for allowing the Cricket Board of Maldives to name this tournament after him.

Bangla Tigers made it a 2023 clean sweep of 3 formats as they clinched the T20 Final in an exciting match against Fuvahmulah Cricket Academy.
Winning the toss, FCA put Bangla Tigers into bat first and looked to be heading to certain defeat as the opening pair of bowlers Naseem Ali and Azin Rafeeq took 5 wickets for just 19 runs in the first 4 Overs.
However, Mohamed Al Amin, the big match player, took the match by the scruff of the neck and scored a sublime 90 runs Not-Out from just 43 balls. Supported by Joideep Das (32), the pair brought their teams innings to a close on 163 for the loss of 7 wickets – setting FCA 164 to win.
In reply and with the pressure firmly on the top order, the FCA batsmen scored at a fair pace but lost regular wickets. Captain Shauf Hassan scored 37 and looked in good form until he was clean bowled. Youngster Mabsar Abdulla Ibrahim scored an efficient 22 as he tried to steady the rocking boat.
Player of the tournament Joideep Das took another 4 wickets and he and his team claimed all 10 wickets in the 20th Over and won the match and championship by 33 runs.
The awards were presented fittingly by Ibrahim Shareef, father of the late Ma’aadhu Shareef to the individual prize and team winners. We thank Iburay for attending the match and being our most welcome guest as we remember a great friend of cricket through this flagship tournament in Fuvahmulah City each year.
