The Cricket Board of Maldives (CBM) recently hosted a productive visit from a Fuvahmulah City Council delegation, headed by Deputy Mayor Mohamed Lirar. Received by CBM President Mohamed Faisal and Vice President Ahmed Ishaq, the officials met to discuss strategic pathways for advancing cricket within Fuvahmulah City.
During the talks, President Faisal underscored Fuvahmulah’s critical role in the national growth of the sport, pledging the Board’s continued investment and support. He highlighted the necessity of the Council’s active involvement in local cricket administration while also backing their ambition to transform Fuvahmulah into a leading sports tourism hub.
Deputy Mayor Lirar reflected on the city’s long-standing relationship with cricket, dating back to the opening of its dedicated ground in 2011. He emphasised the potential to further integrate the sport into schools and the local community to drive engagement.
To solidify these shared goals, the two organisations have agreed to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This upcoming agreement will establish a formal framework for ongoing collaboration between the CBM and the Fuvahmulah City Council to ensure the long-term development of the game.
