‘ICC Long Service Award’ Presented to Mohamed Nasir

Congratulations to Mohamed Nasir (Naabe), ICC Long Service Award winner.

The award is presented to individuals who have contributed to cricket development for more than 20 years. CBM President Mohamed Faisal collected the award at the recently concluded International Cricket Council (ICC) Annual Conference in Durban, South Africa.

Naabe has been a continued presence in high-level Maldivian sports for at least 5 decades stretching back to the 1960s as a player of Football, Hockey, Cricket and many, many others.

During the 1970s, along with a select small group, pioneered the founding of sports clubs within the Maldives which are still established today – setting firm foundations for hundreds if not thousands of players.

Cricket holds a special place in Naabe’s heart. A keen player that still scores runs and scoop catches in the slips, and has been the drive of Malé Sports Club for 25 years and counting – with successes in a range of competitions and formats. Naabe and Malé Sports Club have supported regional cricket development with sponsorship and guidance.

In recent years, his son and grandson have shared the organising and day to day activities of sports – a fitting testament to his years of service is to see the players, club and sports thrive under this family continuity.

The CBM will hold an event in the upcoming days to formally present the award to Mohamed Nasir himself.
