Maldives captain Hassan Haziq Rasheed has announced his retirement, at the end of the match against Saudi Arabia on Wednesday 14 October, Match 15 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia Sub Regional Qualifier B, 2026, at YSD-UKM Cricket Oval, Bangi, Malaysia.
Haziq was only around 16 years old when he first represented the Maldives at the national level—an achievement that was truly remarkable. He was also a member of the team that won the 2010 Challenge Trophy. A naturally talented cricketer, Haziq has always been, above all, a true team man. He has consistently given 100 per cent, both on and off the field, and his commitment, dedication and team spirit have been evident throughout his career.
68 Matches, 2 Formats, over 600 Runs, 20 Catches.

Cricket Board of Maldives President Mohamed Faisal:
“Haziq has been a stalwart of the Maldives national team for many years, representing his country with discipline, distinction, and pride. We thank him for his invaluable contribution to Maldivian cricket and wish him every success in the next chapter of his journey.”
Cricket Board of Maldives Vice President Ahmed Ishaq:
“Haziq is one of the most devoted players that the national team had in his 16 years of representing Maldives. The nation will miss him in the international scene but he will continue to add to the 17 domestic trophies as CBL Sports captain.”
Ismail Nihad, International Team mate and coach:
“Haziq began his international career in 2010 and was with the squad ACC Challenge Trophy later that year, since then he has been an excellent team player and makes everyone feel welcome in the squad.”
Ahmed Neesham, International and Club Team mate
“It has been good to share the field with for few years. His contribution to Maldivian cricket extends far beyond his performances; it is also reflected in the passion, commitment and selflessness he has shown to the team. As he brings this chapter of his playing career to a close, he deserves our heartfelt congratulations and thanks for everything he has given to the game.”
We wish Haziq all the best for the future and look forward to him being a part of building the next generation of players.
