Women’s Cricket Within The Maldives

It’s Mumbai, India, In front of a sell out crowd on February 17th 2013, The Australian Women’s Cricket Team lift the Women’s World Cup after defeating the West Indies Women’s team.

The match attracted the attention of the world’s media and used the match to showcase how popular the women’s game has become over the past few years.

The Maldives needs to be part of this too.

Women’s cricket is a global game that has had an international governing body since 1958 and there is an ever increasing number of global competitions and tournaments taking place throughout the cricketing calendar.

Although there is no current set-up or structure within the maldives for women’s cricket, it is high on the agenda for the next 5 years to build a domestic and international presence by focusing on developing women’s access to the game via schools and local clubs throughout the Maldives.
