2022 Malaysia Quadrangular Series

The 2022 Malaysia Quadrangular Series is a Twenty20 International (T20i) cricket tournament that is scheduled to take place in Malaysia in July 2022.

The participating teams are the hosts Malaysia along with Bhutan, Maldives and Thailand. These will be the first International matches for all the participating teams except the host’s in the 2022 season.

Team Maldives will be back in International action for the first time since October 2021, when they took part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia A Qualifiers.

Both Maldives and Thailand have experience of playing in Malaysia before, when they took part in the T20i Tri-series tournament held in June 2019.

The hosts, Malaysia, have played much cricket this year and despite some off-the-field issues, are going from strength to strength on-the-field in both the men’s and women’s game.

Team Maldives squad are fresh from a tour of Sri Lanka playing practice matches at Panadura Esplanade and De Soysa Park Stadium. More Info

The squad of 14 players led by Coaches Ahmed Neesham and Imad Ismail and Team Manager Ibrahim Shaaz Habeeb head for Malaysia direct from the tour of Sri Lanka on Saturday morning.

All four teams will take on each other twice, making it 12-group stage fixtures, and the top two teams will advance to the final.

All 13 matches will be played at YSD-UKM Cricket Oval. The opening clash will be between the host country Malaysia against Bhutan on July 2 (Saturday).

Maldives fans will get to see the team playing their first match against Thailand in a morning clash on Sunday July 3.

Picking up the sport through the school junior programmes, he has risen through all the national level age-groups and is keen to deliver his biggest dream of getting the Maldives cricket team to a world cup. With a huge shot-selection catalogue at his disposal and off-spin up his sleeve, can the man from Gerevi make an impact this time?

Light-of-foot, Ameel squirrels his way to the crease and delivers a ball with the most economical of actions. As a left armer he always makes the batsmen think. A talented middle order batsman that can time the ball well.
Leem Shafeeq

Following in his fathers strides, Leem generates a surprising amount of pace and bounce from slamming that front foot into the crease and using his leg as a huge lever. Wise beyond his age, Leem has worked out how to take wickets match after match regardless of the opposition.
Hassan Ibrahim

Hassan has played Grade cricket in Australia and tournament cricket in Malaysia. A pacey, front on action has seen Hassan snatch key wickets and keep the best of batsmen unable to play their natural game. Hassan is a reliable middle order batsman when, on his day, can embarrass the best of bowlers with a range of powerful shots.
Ibrahim Rizan
Bowler
A traditional off-spinner, Rizan works hard at his art and has won awards recently for his tally of wickets taken at the domestic level. When he gets the chance on the international stage, he must continue that learning curve. A future leader and future key player.
Janaka Malinda
Bowler
Malinda is talented all-rounder and super quick between the sticks. A master at unsettling the fielding side with fast runs exchanging the strike. Arriving at the bowling crease with plenty of variations, Having drawn a blank when selected previously, this chance he could be a key player if Maldives are to snatch victories in this years competition.
Ibrahim Nashath
All Rounder
Mr Dependable. This firefighting cricketer is a trusted team mate with either bat or ball. A cool character on and off the field, Nashath is a captains dream rotating the strike and sending down some magical variations.
Mohamed Azzam

In early years he scored centuries and kept wicket like the best, some lean years and some injuries recently has perhaps seen a drop in confidence. However, all in Maldives Cricket know what he is capable of. This is the year to show those at home and away.
Ali Shunan

After some years away from the game, Shunan has turned things around and fought his way back to the squad - last appearing in 2015. A leggie with the skills to rip it both ways. The baby faced assassin can launch the ball way past the rope as well as any in the game.
Ali Imaan

A debutant to the squad, Imaan has worked on his craft and now is the time to re-pay the faith shown by the coaches and selectors as he has not bowled many competitive overs.
Ahmed Neesham
Coach
A former national team member of the successful regional tournaments 2005, 2006 and 2010. This all-rounder produced match winning performances again and again for club and country. Now, he is charged with empowering the national team with the same self-belief, hunger to improve and win as he had.
Imad Ismail

Imad is Mr Maldives Cricket. The CBM Development Manager, Level 3 Coach, Coach Educator, Level 3 Umpire & Umpire Educator has perhaps the biggest challenge of his career ahead of him to reshape cricket development in the 'post-covid' times. Always plays and teaches cricket to be played with a smile.
Ibrahim Shaaz Habeeb
Manager
Shaaz comes into the group with a wealth of sports management experience. A natural swing bowler still performing on a domestic level, he is now charged with channeling his winning mind-set into developing a comfortable environment for the players and making sure they don't have to deal with all the things he can take care of.
