The nations largest Ramadan sports competition continues with the start of the ‘Office Tournament’ at Ekuveni Cricket Ground in Malé from April 16th.

10 teams are participating in this years Office Tournament. All teams are from Government Offices or State Owned Enterprises.

The 2021 edition saw Customs Recreation Club beat the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment in a well played and exciting final.
This year both teams have been drawn in Group B.

4pm: MIRA v Customs Recreation Club

MIRA crowned champions of the 2022 Office Ramadan Cricket Carnival after a well fought match against Customs Recreation Club today at Ekuveni Cricket Ground, Malé.

DSC batting first in a superb carnival atmosphere lost their openers wickets but MIRA had the in-form batsman Kamrul Islam in at number 3.

Kamrul blasted a huge 73 from 23 balls including 10 sixes and remained Not Out until the close of the innings with him team posting an excellent 146/6 from 8 Overs.

In reply, CRC didnt lose a wicket in the chase with both openers Mahmood Riyaz 40 from 19 balls and Mohamed Amir 50 from 23 balls batting throught the 8 alloted Overs to reach 131 runs.

A valiant effort indeed from CRC but on the day it was the ferocious dismembering of the bolwing from Kamrul Islam of MIRA that was the difference between winning and losing.

MIRA won by 15 runs.

The CBM would like to thank Chief Guest former Cricket Board of Maldives Vice-President Faruhath Jaleel for presenting the awards alongside CBm President Mohamed Faisal and Vice-President Ahmed Hussain (Dhona).

Group Match 1
4pm: MMA v MIRA

The guys from the Tax office took maximum points in the 1st match today at Ekuveni Cricket Ground in Malé.

Mohamed Jinah Ibrahim, 32 from 15 balls and Kamrul Islam, 27 from 10 balls top scored in the match for MIRA to comfortably win in the 6th Over of their innings chasing a target of 83.

MIRA won by 5 wickets.

5pm: Presidents Office v Police Club

The second match of the day was a closer affair than the previous match with over 230 runs scored in 15.4 Overs.

Winning the toos, Police Club put the President Office into bat first. Opener Ahmed Sameer was out early doors which led to Maldives Vice President H.E. Faisal Naseem (31 from 20 balls) and Munshid Mohamed (33 from 14 balls) to open up their arms and score freely.

The Presidents Office team posted a target of 115 for Police Club to win.

It was the openers for Police Club that did all the work on their way to victory in the 7th over. Moosa Waseem (31) and Farushan Moosa (32) both retired and left it to the tail enders to clean up the few remaining runs needed to win.

22 sixes were boomed out of the ground today in both matches.

Police Club won by 5 wickets.

Group Match 3
4pm: Ministry of Higher Education v Club Immigration

Immigration overpowered the Ministry of Higher Education in the first of todays matches. Batting first, MHE scored 81/2 from 8 Overs, Adam Abdulla 14 and Ibrahim Hassan 10 squeezed a run a ball from their innings.

In reply, Ahmed Amir 35 and Mohamed Zaki 17, completed a routine victory in the 5th Over. Ibrahim Raqib snatched 2 wickets but it was alwsays going to be a difficult target to defend.

Immigration won by 5 wickets.


Group Match 4
5pm: Muleeage Recreation Club v Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment.

The Ministry team won the toss and put MRC into bat and after grabbing a few early wickets, there was a chance for the Presidents residence guys to crack on and make a decent total.

Prasantha 32 from 15 balls and Bilal 19 from 7 were the pick of the batsmen as they scored 123/2.

In reply, Minster Ahmed Mahloof opened the batting with Islam Saifullah and scored 32 together before both being caught. Imad Ismail came in and saw the target achieved with 6 balls to spare.

MYSCE won by 5 wickets.

4pm: DSC v MIRA

Mohamed Jinah Ibrahim top scored with 49 from 23 balls in a final ball victory for MIRA against DSC.

MIRA batted first and racked up a cool 147 total in 8 Overs. Kamrul 45 from 13 and Ismail Aafaaq with 19.

DSC chased hard with Tholath not out on 30 and Mohamed Shareef 32 from 11 balls. However, it was not enough as the Sifainge Club ended their innings on 130/1.

MIRA won by 17 runs.

5pm: Customs Recreation Club v Police Club

CRC won the toss and put Police Club into bat knowing that they have a good set of bowlers to keep the danger away. That they did, sharing the bowling and not allowing the batsmen to get into a rhythm, restricting Police Club to 106/2.

In reply, CRC ensured the victory in the 6th Over with the experienced presence of Mahmoodh Riyaz not out on 35 and Mohamed Amir 27 form just 11 balls.

Shiruhan bagged a brace of wickets, alas all in vain.

CRC won by 5 wickets.

4pm: Ministry of Higher Education v MMA

Another exciting match began proceedings today as MMA pipped MHE to victory.

Batting first, MHE scored 98 with Adam Abdulla scoring 20 from 21 balls and a single wicket for Ahmed Shihad.

In reply, MMA openers Mohamed Mubeen 25 and Ahmed Shihad 35 chose their shots wisely and patiently as they achieved the win in the 7th Over.

MMA won by 7 wickets.

5pm: Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment v Presidents Office

Minister Ahmed Mahloof led from the front with his team batting first they racked up 142 runs for 2 wickets.

The Minister himself scoring 31 from 14 balls with 3 maximums, Saiful Islam 33 from 12 balls and Mohamed Riyaz 30 from 12 balls.

A 143 target is good enough to win almost any match in this tournament but the President’s Office team battled bravely to reach a respectable 115/5 from 8 Overs.

Munshid Mohamed 34 from 11 balls and Ahmed Fayaz 16 from 25 balls were the pick of the batsmen.

Ali Saleem ripped through the batting lineup taking 4 wickets for 29 runs in 2 overs, a star performance.

MYSCE won by 27 runs.

4pm: Immigration v MIRA

Immigration might have thought 127 total would be enough for a win but MIRA had other ideas.

Batting first, Immigration openers Ali Nawau 24 and Ahmed Amir 31 from 14 balls raced away to a great start supported by Hassan Riyaz 24.

Some tight bowling at the end of the innings kept Immigration to raise a target of 128 to win.

MIRA reached the total with 3 balls to spare. Mohamed Jinah Ibrahim top scored with 47 and Kamrul batted smoothly for 33 from 19 balls.

MIRA won by 2 wickets.


Group Match 10
5pm: Muleeaage Recreation Club v Police Club

Almost a carbon copy of the first match, Police Club won with 3 balls to spare.

MRC batted fiorst and Prasantha raced through to 41 from 17 balls with 5 maximums hit. The other batsmen chipped in to bring a total of 114 from 8 Overs.

In reply, Moosa Waseem of Police Club scored 36 from just 10 balls. Sloppy bowling led to MRC giving the 3 points to Police Club.

Police Club won by 3 wickets.

Group Match 11
4pm: DSC v MMA

DSC post a massive 167 runs for 1 wicket. Batting first, all of DSC’s batsmen got into double figures.

Ismail Nashid 31 & Mohamed Shareef 33 top scored as the Sifainge guys hit 11 maximums.

In reply, MMA were always up against it but gave a valiant effort. Ahmed Shihad 25, and Abdulla Rasheed, 22 were the pick of the batsmen.

Mohamed Thoriq snaffled 2 wickets as him and the rest of bowlers did well against a brave team.

DSC won by 50 runs.

5pm: Presidents Office v Customs Recreation Club

CRC breezed past the Presidents Office today. CRC won the toss and put the Presidents Office into bat first.

Vice President H.E. Faisal Naseem top scored with 33 from just 16 balls with 3 booming sixes. He was supported by Munshid Mohamed 31 form 20 balls.

Presidents Office set a target of 100 to CRC who cooly reached the total in the 5th over courtesy of Mohamed Amire, 20 and Mohamed Haikal, 19.

His Excellency the President took the lone wicket of the innings clean bowling Mohamed Amir.

CRC won by 5 wickets.

4pm: Ministry of Higher Education v MIRA

Batting first MHE struggled to get a good footing in the innings, Ibrahim Raqib 11 form 12 balls and top scorer Adam Abdulla not out on 30 from 22 balls combined to set a target of 86 to win.

MIRA won within 4 Overs, Mohamed Jinah Ibrahim scored a bruising 34 from 11 balls backed up by Ibrahim Aafaaq 15 and Kamrul Islam not out on 17 from 5 balls.

Thoriq Jalal took the only wicket as MIRA crucised to victory.

MIRA won by 6 wickets.

5pm: Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment v Police Club

MYSCE even without Minister Mahloof in the attack today won with ease over the Police Club.

Police Club batted first and similarly with the first match, set a total of 84. Moosa Waseem 12 and Ahmed Shiruhan 30 were the notable batsmen.

Saiful Islam and Imad Ismail swept their team to a cool victory in the 6th Over scoring 18 and 17 respectively.

Javid Ismail and Ismail Naseer took a wicket each in a low scoring encounter.

MYSCE won by 5 wickets.

4pm: MMA v Immigration

Immigration tore past MMA in the first of todays matches.

Winning the toss, MMA chose to bat but had a difficult start losing both openers cheaply.

Abdulla Rasheed steadied the MMA ship with 29 from 21 balls before being clean bowled by Hassan. Others chipped in to set a target of 101 to win.

In reply, Immigration breezed past the target in the 5th Over courtesy of some fine shots by Ali Nawau 25 and Sais Mohamed 22.

Immigration won by 5 wickets.


Group Match 16
5pm: Presidents Office v Muleeaage Recreation Club

Muleeaage Recreation Club bowled and batted in almost perfect fashion to obtain all 3 points.

Presidents Office used up all their wickets within 7.4 Overs as they topped out at 93/8. Munshid Mohamed 17 and Ahmed Fayaz 21 were the pick of the batters.

Wickets fell for 4 of the 6 bowlers used. An amazing 3 wickets for 3 runs by Ali Ibrahim.

In reply, MRC lost just 2 wickets as they overcame the target in the 6th Over. Ibrahim Hussain 31 and Bilal 23.

MRC won by 5 wickets.

4pm: DSC v Ministry of Higher Education

A thumping win for DSC over MHE in the early match today. Opening batsmen Ismail Nashid 34 and Mohamed Shareef 49 combined with Ahmed Rashaad 23 to score a record busting 167/7 from 8 Overs for the DSC team.

In reply, MHE lost crucial batsmen early only for Adam Abdulla to come in and score 31 before being cleaned up by a snorter from Ahmed Nasheed. The Ministry team totaled 86/7 from their 8 Overs.

DSC won by 81 runs.


Group Match 18
5pm: Ministry of Youth, Sports & Community Empowerment v Customs Recreation Club

A high scoring affair in the second match as CRC pipped MYSCE with just 2 balls to spare.

Both teams scored a combined 295 runs over 15.4 Overs. MYSCE batsmen Saiful Islam 34, Minister Mahloof 31 and the evergreen Imad Ismail 42 not out brought the team to 146 from 8 Overs.

A 147 target would usuallly be enought o secure victory but the CRC team, fired up, made runs quickly thanks to Mohamed Amir 33, Mahmoodh Riyaz 20, Mohamed Haikal 29 and Faisal Abdul Sattar 27.

Bowler Ali Saleem suffered the most as he went for 52 from 12 balls.

CRC won by 6 wickets.

Group Match 19
4pm: DSC v Immigration

In the ‘winner takes all’ match between these two teams it was DSC that won and booked themselves into the Semi-Finals of the tournament.

Batting first, Immigration charged forward into run-scoring with Ahmed Amir 34 from 23 balls and Ali Nawau 13 form 7 balls.

However, wickets fell at crucial times and Immigration fought hard to reach 104/4 from 8 Overs.

DSC fought that little bit harder and despite losing a flurry of wickets late on it was Mohamed Shareef 22 from 9 balls and Ismail Nashid 32 from 17 balls that did enough damage to ensure their team made it through as winners.

DSC won by 4 wickets.


Group Match 20
5pm: Muleeaage Recreation Club v Customs Recreation Club

An important toss to win, it was CRC that won it and chose to bat first and impose themselves by posting a high target to chase and load the pressure onto MRC.

Openers Mohamed Haikal 32 from 12 balls and the cunning Mahmoodh Riyaz with 65 from just 20 balls enabled CRC to post an impressive 161 runs for 4 wickets.

Cue the pressure to play it’s part. MRC couldnt get a batsman settled until Ibrahim Hussain hit 29 from 20 balls not out. But it was not enough and with overs running out, MRC trickled their way to a total of 83.

CRC won by 78 runs.
