Media Release 3rd May 2020
Mohamed Aflah Re-Elected ICC- Asia Regional Representative for a further 2 year term from April 1st 2020 – March 31st 2022.
Cricket Board of Maldives President Mr. Mohamed Aflah has been successfully re-elected as the International Cricket Council (ICC) Regional Representative for Asia after an election result was announced on Saturday 2nd May 2020 by the ICC Development Manager for Asia, M.D Aminul Islam.
Mr. Aflah fought off challenges from the 21 Associate members of Asia’s cricketing community to retain his seat for a further two years and has strengthened the voice of Maldives cricket within the ICC across both Asia and the world in addition to being one of the first Maldivian to be elected part of an international sports governing body.

With the utmost interest of Maldives cricket, Iran and other non-voting members, which need to have a voice at ICC, which he has done as the incumbent and have cemented a voice in ICC and cricketing international community and earned the respect from them.
Since rising to the ‘top-job’ at the Cricket Board of Maldives in 2016 the former Men’s National Team player has striven to develop relationships around the globe with cricket stakeholders and likewise to raise the profile of Maldives cricket.
CBM President and the Executive Committee have a great opportunity to continue the development of home-grown players into the Maldives National squads at all levels and ensure they are competing in the fairest and competitive tournaments.

For the past 4 years, Maldives National teams have been seeded into the ‘Asia Western Region’ and have struggled to compete against the likes of U.A.E., Oman, Qatar and their vast pools of ‘imported’ players from the sub-continent.

Mr. Aflah will be working with the ICC/ACC to encourage a change back to the Asia Eastern Region which is much more suited to the steady development of the cricketers from Maldives – as shown in recent performances against similarly ‘home-grown’ teams such as Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand and Bhutan.

To be re-elected to this position is an example of leadership and Maldives Cricket should be optimistic for the future ahead in International Cricketing Map.

At home, the CBM officials are working with cricket partners and stakeholders to hold-fast during this most unique of times and to ensure cricket comes out with a bright and positive outlook to be.
